1940 DIXIE ICE CREAM PREMIUM, JOHN KING, RARE, LARGE COLOR ITEM!!!

This week I'm offering a number of old non-sport cards from various vintage sets. Dixie Ice Cream had one of the longest-running and most successdful non-sports promotions in history. From 1933 to 1954, they offered photos of popular movie stars on the inside lids to their single serve cups of ice cream. In all but the final year, you could save up enough lids to send in and you'd get a large color photos, printed on heavy paper stock, of your favorite star. The premiums came with two holes pre-punched along the side (1935-1945) or along the top (1946-1953), so you could put them in a special album the company also offered. There were twenty four different actors available each year from 1933 to 1953, all but the first two years in color. It makes for quite a challenge to collect the complete set!! This photo is from 1940, and the premiums were produced that year in the 8 x 10 size that was the standard. The backs of the premiums featured photos and write-ups of the actor's recent and current movies. This one features cowboy actor John King; it's in very nice shape no serious flaws (see scans for condition). This would be a terrific addition to any collection!
