These head crests are owned by men or women associations. The head crssts are
worn during funerals, initiations and other events. The head crest is carved form a single piece of wood, attatched to a basket and covered  with untanned antelope skin that had been soaked in water for several days. The hide is stretched and tacked into place until it dries and stiffens.
