    Based on Ruth and Augustus Goetz's 1947 play, which was in turn based on Henry James' 1880 novel "Washington Square." A shy young woman falls in love with a poor but handsome man, to the displeasure of her father, who believes the man only wants her for her inheritance.
    Nominated for eight Academy Awards, winning four, including Best Actress for Olivia de Havilland.
    Set in 1850s New York City.
