My Rubber Discs: My dimensional circles  replicate the head size for marching tenors (for example, the playing area of a 12 inch drum is actually just under 12 inches).   The rubber is 1/8" thick and is smooth.  My rubber isn't as bouncy as gum rubber, but it is way less expensive.  If you have ever tried to cut rubber you will appreciate circles cut to size. The pads work with tenor mallets, and work super great with snare sticks.
What is a kit?  Typical tenor pads are 0 plus shipping...OUCH!  With my kits, you get rubber discs that correspond to your drum sizes.  You will need to supply a board, paint or varnish, glue, sand paper and a cleaning supplies to clean your pad before you glue it up.  You will  receive instructions and an easy diagram to follow.
Skill level: You, or someone you know, should be able to cut with a saw, follow simple instructions, be able to layout some simple lines on a board, apply glue and paint.  I'd say this is about an 8th grade shop project level at minimum.  If you have more skills (routing, graphics etc) the sky is the limit.
You can make a full tenor pad for under .  Typically it costs around if you have to buy everything listed, or less if you have some supplies.

The wooden pad pictured is just an example of what can be done.  I started with circles, used a razor knife and straight edge to cut straight lines, bought a board at Home Depot and went from there.  This pad is the same dimensions as a popular pad, but for 1/4 the cost.

Common Terms:
6-6-10-12-13-14 This means six drums, in inches.
6-8-10-12-13 This means five drums, in inches.
Quads are any marching tenors, typically 4 main drums and 0, 1 or 2 Spok drums.
Spok drum (or Gok drum) is the 6 inch small drum closest to the body.  Sometimes it is 8 inches, sometime 6 and 8.
Tenors are any set of toms that are marched around.
Drum 1 is the center right drum - usually 8 or 10 inches
Drum 2 is the center left drum - usually 10 or 12 inches
Drum 3 is the outer right drum - usually 12 or 13 inches
Drum 4 is the outer left drum - usually 13 or 14 inches
Quints is common term for a 5 drum set of Quads
Sextet is a common term for a 6 drum set of Quads
Sumo is a common name for the 6-8-10-12-13-14 Quad set up.  This big daddy is the most popular.
Full Sized is usually when drums 1-4 are 10-12-13-14
Small Sized is usually when drums 1-4 are 8-10-12-13
3/4 Circle is when I cut the circle down a bit, you still have your playing zone but the overall size of your pad can be a bit smaller.
Shipping is actual cost based on the size and weight of the box and your zip code.  I use USPS because they come to my house to pick up the packages.
I set the handling time because I often go away for work but come home on the weekends.  I often get the kits out the same day you order, or the next day, but sometimes I can't ship until Saturday.
